Overactivity or chronic spasm of the chin muscles (mentalis) can lead to prominence of the chin and dimpling or a ‘pebbling’ effect of the skin. The mentalis muscle can have an undesirable effect on the chin by making it appear very narrow or bulbous. Injecting botulinum toxin into the mentalis muscle relaxes the muscle and therefore reduces the bulk of the chin.
